How to migrate to other write/note app?

The content you create with WonderPen is yours forever, and you can export the data at any time and migrate it to other apps (some conversions may be required).

Your data is saved in the Library folder. The main data is stored in data.db, a SQLite database. You can use a database tool to open and process its data, or export data from WonderPen first (for example, as text) and then process it.

Parse backup data

Parsing backup data requires you to have some programming skills, at least knowing how to parse the required data from a JSON file. The main data in a WonderPen backup (.zip file) is stored in data.json and the assets folder. Included history depends on backup options and whether the backup is complete.

  • data.json: Contains Library data such as documents, whiteboards and memos.
  • assets folder: Contains asset files such as images embedded in documents and whiteboards.

If writing process records are included, they are stored in a separate doc_ops folder. See Backup File Format for details. Do not treat data.json as a single file containing all Assets and history.

Export as text

You can also export the data as text first, the directory structure of the documents is also preserved if exported as a folder, and then you can import these text files into other writing/notes app.

However, note that this method exports only the document content by default (you can choose to include memos when exporting), and does not include whiteboards, cards or other data. If you need to export the full data, please consider the way of parsing the backup data.
